Creativity and aesthetics to me means to dare to dream. What could be? Where do the opportunities lay to improve both human and non-human lives? Taking different perspectives into account to make informed decisions about ideas generated through different ideation techniques. To be able to translate these ideas into physical prototypes that state their purpose through their design. Taking into account and being critical of their aesthetic qualities in shape, material, sound, interaction, mechanism, concept and presentation. striking a balance between intuition and knowledge to best perform these choices based on too little information.
My initial understanding of C&A was primarily based on ideation methods and visually pleasing aesthetics through project 1 & 2. I have now come to realize and understand through aesthetics of interaction that it is about more than that. The way an object is designed allows it to be interacted with taking affordances, different kinds of feedback (frogger framework) and its material interactiveness. My affinity to this last aspect directed me to follow design and sensorial form where I learned about the impact of materiality, approachability of an object, modalities of sound, temperature, texture, weight, spatial awareness, preconceptions, a difference between envisioned and perceived reality. All aspects that play a role in the aesthetics of a design. I further explored these newly learned modalities through my startup with a peer, it is called DAVER where we explored immersive interactive experience installations and centers.
Another modality that I would like to add to the texture of a material is its construction or methodology of making that impacts the experience of the user. Something I learned in my third project. Seeing the difference, for example weaving, can have on the perception of a material like nylon.These different making techniques lay more in T&R then C&A, though they are inextricably interwoven with one another.
Future Development
I want to learn more about the interactivity between man and nature. Trying to understand the modalities of the senses in collaboration with nature to learn what effects they have on human cognition and living experience. I want to design and create my own visual language, becoming proficient in painting, sketching, creating more soundscapes through the use of synthesisers and increasing my competency in material engagement.
